Game Questions-Character Based | Game Questions-Planet Based

Everything is silent when you awaken. When you open your eyes, you are beside a fountain in the heart of a massive, formerly abandoned city. It may look familiar to you with its towering buildings or this may be the first time you've been on a world with so much technology. Either way, it is clear that time has done a number on this place. Many, but not all, buildings are overrun with plants or tumbling down. The closest thing to you that looks whole and immediately intriguing is a hovering, glowing orb. It calls to you. Unable to fight the call, you're standing and moving forward to touch the smooth surface.

The minute your hand makes contact the entire world vanishes. A force like white fire crashes through your mind, blazing through it without pain. You are downloading information like a computer. Once it's done, this is what you will know:

This planet you're on is called Agra 10. It is now home for you, just as it was once home for the Agrii people. Centuries have passed since anyone has been able to live here, though. Agra 10 is a dying world thanks to inexplicable and debilitating energy storms that have destroyed everything in their paths. The download doesn't contain information about the source of the storms are but it does certainly show how deadly they were for the Agrii.

In ages past, this proud race had a thriving world full of advanced and sophisticated technology. Agra 10 had been a planet of millions when the first energy storm came and immediately destroyed an entire city. After that, they came more and more frequently, leaving devastation in their path. For decades the Agrii concentrated all their efforts on trying to stop it. They lived in fear until, finally, the race of millions had been cut down to a small population of hundreds all huddled together in the heart of their capital, Temba.

That is where you are now.

Temba is the most intact area left, which says a lot about the rest of the planet. When the remaining Agrii left, they did their best to set up Data Points around the city to explain what happened and to help guide anyone who might arrive and was able to fix things. They will likely aid you on your path forward

But how did you get here? Why are you here and not in your home? What are you supposed to be doing?

That information is not included. To find out you're going to have to explore the city. Hopefully you're not alone. In fact, you think you might hear people off in the distance. Some might even sound familiar...

GENERAL

Wait, what? What is this?

The Revival Project is a game that seeks to offer relatively equal measures of survival, adventure, and slice-of-life experiences that picked up after the end of The Drift Fleet. Characters here have been taken from their home universe and brought to the planet Agra 10 by the Agrii people. The mission given by the Agrii has been to rebuild the capital city and the rest of this once-proud world, as well as stopping the recurring energy storms that plague the planet. These ‘He Rows’, selected from many different planets and universes, have proven to be partially immune to the deadly nature of the storm, and thus the Agrii hope they can stop them and restore the planet. Yet time and careful investigations have revealed that this world may not in fact be the homeworld of the Agrii, and that some darker force, perhaps even the Atroma who masterminded The Drift Fleet, may be working against their efforts.

In addition to rebuilding the planet there is also the learning needs of the Agrii people. After all of the chaos that pushed them from what they believe to be their world, they are no longer able to fully understand what it means to be part of a community, much less how to run a society. Watching The Drift Fleet was the only lesson they had to help them start their society once more. So while you work and travel to distant worlds, know that you have fans watching and learning from your every move. And don't be surprised if they even reach out...

So do I need to catch up on The Drift Fleet to play here?

Absolutely not! All that needs to be known about DF is that some of your fellow inhabitants might be pretty used to the idea of being constantly monitored and forced into certain activities. DF was a game that essentially involved a space Reality Show where characters were kept for entertainment. The Agrii found their saviors through the show (as well as the method for taking them) but other than that, their intentions are vastly different. Any allowable character is welcome to join regardless of their presence in DF.

'Survival, Adventure, and Slice-Of-Life'? What is this, really?

What it says on the label. YOU are in control of what you want to pursue here. At the very base the game can (and every third month does) operate as a slice-of-life system where players are encouraged to set their own goals, run their own plots, and otherwise pry into the nature of the world and plot outside of moderator written and operated events. In the past this has included exploration, beach parties, destruction of public buildings, and a few really memorable run ins with rage inducing parasites and a giant rock creature.

This is only a portion of what The Revival Project offers though. On a regular basis characters are subjected to events like Energy Storms that leave them powerless and misdirected by echoes of their past, off-world excursions to help uncover more secrets about Agra-10 and the powers behind it, and even directed rebuilding or search efforts on the planet where the greater story of what is going on makes itself known. Once a year there is also a Calibrations event, where characters may become trapped and forced every time they sleep to experience the memories of their fellows, and even share their own.

And of course, there’s survival. This comes from both the dangers of the planet and other places that characters are taken, as well as from the still relatively ruined state of the world itself. Sure there’s agriculture going on, sure there’s power and water, but these can fail at any time. Plus there is a world of creatures out there that might just want a bite out of you.

How much you want to engage with any particular aspect of the game is largely up to the player, but it should be understood that all of these elements together is what The Revival Project is about. We do note that we try to provide means for you to opt-out of those events that are uncomfortable to you in one method or another and do so as regularly as we can, but these mostly come in the form of unaffected areas, not alternative events.

When is this taking place? What is time like? Is this just Earth with a new name?

The future? The past? You don't know for sure. You don't even know if this is your own universe. Might as well give up thinking about time as you knew it. Days and nights on Agra 10 follow a 30-hour schedule with seasonal variations. It will be announced in events when this changes but, for now, get used to a weird sleep schedule. We do try at the start of every month to note any important climate/seasonal changes that may affect the setting to help you think about how this can affect your character. The one thing that is certain is that this is not any planet you’ve been to before, and perhaps not one you will ever be again after you leave.

Are there other people living here? What are the cities like?

The only residences are those characters brought here by you or other players. No one lives on Agra 10 but the wildlife and the ‘He Rows’. Well, it has recently been discovered that there are some ‘locals’ that are small plant-like people called Funfronds and Barrys, and there are hints of other ‘Plantkin’ species. But one should not expect shop keepers or bartenders or letter carriers. Those people who would do those tasks are your fellow residents and characters they play, as this truly is a ruined planet you are living on. Modern amenities aren’t to be expected unless your fellows have created them. The good news is there is running water and reliable electricity thanks to the years of hard work from the unwilling residents. The best way to check what is available is to check out our handy maps.

But The Drift Fleet was in space. Are we going to be planet-bound?

You sure aren't. There will be ships your character will be assigned to that will from time to time take you off to distant worlds and universes. Some of those universes might even be familiar to a few of you, for better or worse. So yes, you will be going into space. For now though Agra 10 is your base of operations and home, as your goal is to help the Agrii here. It's your default location and the place where wonderful and terrible things could happen. Or maybe you'll just sleep in your ship. We're not your mom. Live your best life, friend.

APPLICATIONS

What characters can apply here?

ANYONE! Sort of.

Since the Agrii are using the same technology as the Atroma from Drift Fleet, they are pulling pretty much the same people. That means canon characters, AUs, OCs, and CRAUs are all welcome. Up to four versions of the same character are also allowed as long as they are all significantly different from one another. Malleable protag (such as MMORPG characters, or Bethesda/Bioware protagonists) are welcome and are treated as if they are AUs of each other. Canon-OCs who have no connection to canon characters can be discussed with the mods on a case to case basis. That said we are not accepting real people nor canon-OCs that have relationships with canon characters at this time. Those are the only real hard character rejections. Otherwise we are open to learning about your character in your application/TDM! More information is always better than less so really show us everything.

What is a reserve? Do I need to reserve a character to apply?

Reserves are not required, but they are recommended if you are planning to play a more popular character and want to ensure your application is considered. A reserve will hold the character you want for 30 days. This means that even if someone else applies with the same character, we will read and consider your application first during that time.

Once your reserve expires, you can opt to re-reserve immediately, which will extend the reserve by two weeks. After that, you will have to wait an additional 30 days (from the end date of the extended reserve) before you can reserve the same character again.

Even if you reserve a character, you still need to make a TDM top level to apply. Reserves will be honored in the order they are received.

Do DF members need to apply?

Yes. ALL characters will require an application regardless of membership in DF. There is an alternate application for DFAU characters, however, so be sure to select the correct one.

But what if there are multiple DF people who want one character?

If two players both played OU!Steve Rogers in DF and both want to come to TRP, we will give preference to the player who participated in the endgame. If neither of them were in the endgame then we will give preference to whoever played the character in DF longer (this will require proof). In the unlikely instance where both players played the character for the same amount of time we will ask for applications and make a judgment based on that.

Any age restrictions for characters?

Nope! But please keep in mind that no character aged under 18 should be involved in sexual threads. When it comes to alcohol/drug use we have a 15+ age limit.

Any age restrictions for players?

Yes. All players must be 18+, no exceptions.

Does that mean this game is smut friendly?

Yep. Sure does, friend. Just mark when the smut starts in your thread and please don't Top-Level it. That said, we will not allow threads involving non-con on the main community. If TWO CONSENTING players want to take that into an IC Inbox, more power to them but it cannot be used for AC. Same with smut threads that violate the above rule. If your under 18 character wants to get their groove on with an ancient being of unfathomable age, go for it. Just not here.

What does my character bring with them?

The clothes on their backs and one special item. If they are wearing an item that is not clothing (such as a holster for a weapon or some fashion accessory) that item would fall under the ‘special item’ category. The item is subject to mod approval based on whether they fit within game mechanics and whether or not they may in some way break the setting. DFAU members can bring their pets and/or one memento of their time in the Fleet. This is also subject to approval. If there are any questions (e.g., Does a prosthetic device count as a special item? Does a cane?) please ask them in the comments below (a prosthetic does not, but a cane does as it is easily replaced). Each is on a case by case basis.

Weapons have more recently started to be accepted by the Agrii, but this is by no means a guarantee that one will make it in. Melee weapons are more commonly accepted, and if you are concerned for lack of armaments, please note that there are means to access a firearm in game. In addition, higher tech weapons (e.g. have electronics in them or complex mechanisms) may break down if they are used against another character in an act of aggression. Those weapons that are not ‘high tech’ may just disappear. The Agrii do recognize the difference between sparring and violence at this point though, so don’t worry about that.

Anything NOT included in one's application is NOT allowed to come with them. But who knows? Maybe you'll see those items again later on!

Can my personal item be a pet/droid/AI assistant?

This one depends on the specifics. If the individual pet/robot/etc could be played as a character in their own rights, no. Otherwise, we can discuss possibilities. Characters can still adopt local animals, or even build companions if they are things like robots/droids. If you are confused or worried about your specific companion as a personal item, please ask the mod team with a comment below.

How many characters can I play?

Each player may play up to two characters with no additional requirements. For a third a player must demonstrate that they can maintain baseline AC requirements for their current characters for three months. After these three a player may then request up to three additional characters but only with mod review and permission, and this will require additional AC proofs. Any player who has already had a third character may drop any previous character to apply for a new third.

If a player has recently taken a strike, or drops a character without clearing a strike on that character first, they are not eligible to take up additional characters past their base two characters until after they again demonstrate they can maintain what they already have.

With all the AUs and CRAU does that mean we can have a bucket of Buckys here?

Sadly, no. One character can only have four iterations in game and they all must be proven to be sufficiently different from each other. There is also a cast cap of 15 so keep in mind that having four Buckii, four Nats, four Steves, and three Hawkeyes will lock out everyone else from the MCU pool. Not saying you should avoid RPing who you love. It's just something to keep in mind, especially when going for additional characters.

If the game grows large enough we will revisit cast cap sizes to consider expanding them.

So, what is a canon? Are AU characters considered to be from separate canons?

For canons such as game series like Final Fantasy, in which universes don't connect, each game counts as its own canon. The canon cap in this case applies separately to, say, Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy X. AU characters fall under the canon they are AUs of, and will count toward the cast cap. As an example, Captain America Bucky Barnes (MCU AU) is considered to be from the MCU canon, and counts toward the MCU cast cap, as well as the Bucky Barnes character cap.

We know this gets more complicated for other canons, such as DC (DC Comics, CW DC shows, DCEU/current movies, animated series, etc., would each be separate canons). If you have a question, drop it here or contact the mods and we'll be happy to clarify. It is ultimately a decision of the mods as to where canon lines will be drawn for the purposes of cast caps, and we will try and err on the side of inclusivity. If canon distinction becomes a major concern at some point, we will revisit the discussion but will still have final say.

Is there a waiting period for new canon?

To avoid spoilers, we will have a one-month waiting period from the point a character is being played from. The character can be reserved as well as played on our TDM prior to that point. If they are placed on the TDM we do require appropriate spoilers to be indicated. This same rule will also apply to any canon updates.

Will my character be nerfed?

Good question and the answer is ‘It depends’. Each character will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. For any who have a game-breaking ability, the planet's energy storm will interfere with their ability to use it. This will be addressed as you apply so please dig deep and think about your character so we can settle this in advance. Also use your best judgment here. Static Shock running around turning all the machines on might make the survival aspect a little dull for some people. If you have questions before you apply, feel free to ask them below and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

My character died/is dying in canon. What are my options?

There is a hospital as well as characters with medical skills to provide assistance, and current players have been happy to offer to handle ‘stabilizing’ new arrivals in the past. If your character is coming into the game in rough shape, you probably want your first post to be looking for help. Dead, however, is going to be a little harder as Agrii cannot restore life to the dead. That said, your dead character is welcome to be grabbed by the Agrii just prior to their demise. For injured characters, please just address in your application how they will take care of their condition so as not to die seconds after arrival.

Wait. So...characters can die? What if mine is immortal?

With the hospital open and medics around death is unlikely and rarely a risk. In those cases where it is close to happening the Agrii are known to intervene to the best of their abilities. That said any mortal characters looking to permanently die as they exit the game should reach out to the mod team to okay this as the Agrii really don’t like losing their He Rows this way.. On the other hand, if you’re immortal then yay! Lucky you. The Agrii would still try and spare you from certain death or severe injury if they can though. If your character is a vampire or can otherwise resurrect or they can magically or supernaturally help the sick, please address that in the application as an ability.

Okay, I got it. When are the app cycles, then?

Applications are rolling. Reserves are optional, but recommended, as they will "hold" that character for you and ensure we evaluate your application first, even if a second person applies with the same character during the month your reserve is valid.

That said, applications require a TDM post that either has five replies from your character or three replies from your character on at least two other TDM posts.

Wait. What?

The application process here is a little different, we know. Here is how it will go down chronologically:
1) As an optional first step, you are able to reserve your character on the Reserves page. You can see the rules for Reservations both above and on that page. Reserves will be honored in order of receiving; we will not accept an application from a second reserve unless the first is rejected.

2) Post a Top Level to the TDM, including both character name and their canon. This can be done even if the character you wish to TDM is Reserved, but know that the other potential player has first crack for application thanks to their reserve.

3) Reply to any tags received until you make five replies from your character in your TDM thread.

4) In the case that there are no/not enough responses to your own TDM post, 3 replies to two different characters on their TDMs will also count. Help each other out.

5) Once the replies are made (or if there is no activity in the TDM after one week) the application can be submitted with links to the threads (or, if no activity, one external writing sample with 5+ replies will be needed along with the top-level.)

6) Applications will be evaluated as received and approvals/requests for more information will be communicated within a one week period as often as possible. Please be prepared to discuss anything the mods have questions regarding, and open to the idea of changes that need made. These are most commonly related to special items or character abilities.
What if I am going for a second/third character?

This is the requirement for every application regardless of prior approval. Each character will be evaluated individually and thus will require a separate TDM thread. You may not tag between your characters on the TDM to build threads up to length.

And if I am a DF Alumnus?

Same as above. Requirements are the same.

Where can I find the application?

The application is available here! Note that there are two applications: one for non-DF characters/alum, and one for DF alum.

I want to canon update my character! What do I have to do?

Canon updates are done at the player's discretion. You can update to any future point in your character's canon (you can't go backward), as long as it's been more than a month since the canon was released (meaning canon updates are also subject to our one-month waiting period for all new canons).

When you decide to canon update, we require a three things: first that your character is gone for at least three days (it can be longer and/or coincide with a hiatus if desired, but not that is not necessary) before the update, second that you post to the OOC comm about the update so other players will know what's happening and when, and third that you update your permissions page with new canon point information and any relevant changes. A canon update is treated the same way as a hiatus in game - your character leaves the setting for three or more days without warning or prior knowledge, then returns with the added canon behind them.

It is very important that you do not forget to update the permissions page with your new canon point. These pages are meant as a reference for other players, so it's easiest for everyone if it's up to date.

If you would like to change your character's personal item, if your character has gained new powers after the update, or if you desire to change accounts for the character (i.e. from an account you use to play the character as a child to one used to play them as a teen) please contact the mods for approval. If nothing has changed with regard to powers, personal items, or accounts, then no mod permission is needed during the process.

CHARACTER BASED

So I decided to stay/go home at the end of DF. What now?

Surprise! Apparently the Agrii liked you enough to want you back! Hope you didn't piss anyone off with that decision because you're back and now you have to deal with it. Really, it is up to you what happened to your character. Did they come back after being home for a year? Did they immediately show up here from their point of view but otherwise at a temporal delay? Have they been here before? Do they remember? Anything is possible, just put it in the application and have fun with it.

Do we still have our Augments? Or, alternatively, what are Augments?

For DF folk, the Augments are still there. Sort of. For non-DF folk, these were small implants that were used to control/educate/adjust characters in that game. In DF they were unable to be removed due to an overwhelming feeling of dread/pain even trying. In The Revival Project, the Augments are there physically but they are malfunctioning. What that means and how bad you want the malfunctions to be are up to you. Does your pilot forget how to fly in the middle of landing? Do you not sync with other education systems properly? It’s up to you. If you want to get a sharp rock and carve it out or bribe a medical specialist for brain surgery, be our guest as well. For non-DF folk, don't worry. There's no Augment or implant that you can find...

What are the Data Points all about?

Right now there are six skill Data Points that are active, and one informational Data Point that any who first arrive on planet will encounter at the fountain. Deactivated ones can be found around Temba but don’t seem to be repairable. Each Data Point will give different information or an expertise once taken (e.g., before you can fly a spaceship or do agriculture work without guidance, the Piloting or Agricultural expertise must be taken). That said, your character can learn from any Data Point they choose to. Keep in mind, however, that they can only hold ONE expertise at a time. If someone wants to learn medicine but before had learned engineering, they will forget one for the other.

Can characters lose/remove a Data Point expertise?

Yes. To remove any Data Point expertise a character need only touch the same Data Point again. If that one is too far away, they can touch any other skill Data Point twice to reset to a blank slate.

The only other ways that expertises are lost is in the case of a canon update (as the character was gone), or misuse of the Security expertise. Please see the Data Points page for more information on the specifics related to Security.

Do we retain anything learned once an expertise is removed?

No. Even any notes taken about Data Point contents will seem like gibberish without the expertise. This includes situations where a character is already a specialist in the field of knowledge back home. Someone who is a hotshot pilot back home will not be able to fly the ships without Piloting and people who are accomplished electrical engineers cannot safely fiddle with the power systems without Engineering.

Are the expertises important?

In a story/setting sense, yes. We ask players to submit their character's expertise every month with their AC so we can keep track of it. Different events often have different options/tasks/knowledge available for characters to pursue based on their expertise. Also the expertise will help you around Agra 10 as you rebuild it or explore the world’s mysteries.

Do I need to have an expertise?

Nope! Expertise is opt-in only. If you don't want your character to submit their brain to a Data Point to gain an expertise, that's totally fine. They are absolutely not mandatory. Many characters have been part of this game for extended periods of time without ever taking an expertise. Others bounce between them as needed or as it amuses the character (some have even been known to take Communications just to troll the Network or temporarily type in big red letters).

Okay. But why is my character helping out here? Why do they care?

Maybe they don't. There is no compulsion for you to do anything to help Agra 10, the Agrii, or even seek out what deeper reasons you might be present outside of the fact that you will be hurting other characters and your own survival by sitting on your hands. You also will be exceptionally bored if your character is the sort to never engage in some aspect of the game so really think about your character and whether or not they will fit in here. Some events will have elements of compulsion in them (for those not opting out) so that will give your character a few excuses for what they are meant to be doing. But for just day-to-day life, the only thing propelling your character will be their desire for either a return home, survival, seeking answers, or exploration of a new world. If you can't see your character finding one of those as a reason to engage with the environment then this might not be the game for them.

So there isn't any money?

Nope. The population is limited to the characters in the game and they seem to have opted for either bartering, trading in assistance, or full on commune living. However, the Agrii are watching and have been known to provide gifts in the past. Now, their interpretation of good gifts might be a little wanting but they probably get better with time. Who knows, they might even give you something valuable from back home! Sometimes you may end up visiting other worlds for events where there is currency, at which point it will be provided by the Agrii and may be able to be otherwise acquired on site. But on Agra 10 there is no value in money.

My character is vegan/vampiric/a plant. Is this a problem?

Depends on the character. Part of this game is partially survival based so your character might need to be creative. Vegans will have little to no problem if they stick to foods deemed safe by the Agricultural expertise. Vampires have a bit more work to do. They might need to ask He Rows to donate, or go after animals, or look into this one weird plant that seems to drain blood from others to store in fruit. Plant-people might find the soil doesn’t suit them or they need to find a balance in the longer days and thus greater daylight hours. It's up to you. Check out the Planet Section of the FAQ if you need more info on how your character might cope with this place.

Does my character need to speak English?

No. Surprisingly, you all understand each other. The magic of plot device is clearly active. Though characters who share a language will naturally understand they are both speaking their native tongue. Otherwise everyone more or less perceives others as speaking/writing a language they know. For a more detailed explanation please see here.

What happens to my character when I take a Hiatus?

Life happens. To not disrupt the game, when you are on Hiatus, your character will be on a private, secret mission that the Agrii abduct them for. What was the mission? What did you do? Where were you? No one knows! All you can remember is the feeling of being observed at all times. Maybe there are some scratches you don't remember getting. Maybe you suddenly don't like certain noises or words. Maybe you come back glowing and at peace like you spent time at the spa. No one knows what happened while you were gone and your character will never remember it but whatever it is, at least it didn't kill you.

Meanwhile, other characters will know you were gone, but as the records of the character remain and their communications device can still be messaged they will be known to be coming back. It’s only with a character dropping that their information would disappear.

The other alternative is handwaved autopilot. Your character goes about their usual business. If there is an event they are assumed to have gone the opt-out route.

What happens if my character drops/is swept?

Poof. Now you see them, now you don't. People left behind will know you are gone and quite possibly mourn your loss or celebrate your trip home. Everything you used to own (beyond your special item) will be left behind and open to whoever wants it. You are also welcome to tell people OOC who gets what when you leave. If you return at a later date those items may be recoverable.

Will I ever see my precious ____ again?

Are you missing your favorite weapon? Feel a bit lost without your beloved pet?? Well, there is hope! The Agrii have mysterious abilities and occasionally will deliver the items to you for special occasions, or just to be nice. Sometimes these might be useful things from home and other times they could be purely random. Who knows? Well you know, sometimes, because of specific solicitation for player input on gifts being gained.

Additionally we have a referral based prize system. You may have noticed the ‘referral’ field on our applications. Whenever the application of a new player (not character) lists a referral was given, up to two players listed here receive a referral prize. The mods reach out to the players directly to determine what they will receive, with the rules we use listed below.

What are possible prizes for referrals?

Possible prizes are: A) One AC Pass good for one character for one month; B) One reclaimed item from the canon of the character you are applying it to; or C) two mundane, non-canon specific items (e.g. a supply drop of a food stuff, random clothes, or furniture would all be valid).

Players must make their decision on the prize either before the next AC cycle is due or within 3 weeks of being notified of your prize, whichever comes second. If nothing is selected by then the default is an AC Pass. All prizes are subject to approval by the mods, and while we make every effort to provide what is requested, there may be items that are not suitable to the setting or detrimental to the plot that will be denied.

PLANET BASED

Who are the Agrii?

At this point He Rows know a fair bit about them. They are a very tall, four-armed, three eyed, pink-to-purple skinned, fanged people who speak in rather clipped and odd ways. They are a less than numerous but cheerful alien race who, at this time, seem to be mostly benevolent. Over time it has become clear that the Agrii do not fully understand the technology at their disposal. In a way they don’t seem capable of all that it is suggested they have done to build a city on this planet. They are pretty confused by things and occasionally a little too literal in interpretations of things. Think of them as very smart five year olds.

All of the ones He Rows know have grown up for generations in the same ship with the same people. For a long time they’ve just orbited their own planet and used Drift Fleet as their only connection with anyone outside. That might be part of the reason they behave so oddly. They will contact their saviors now and again either to voice their thanks or to announce something they need, and reply to contact requests. Unlike the Atroma, they watch you not for entertainment but for education. And, really, they are endlessly grateful for all of you helping their planet. They just might show it in confusing ways.

What one might learn from other He Rows who have been around longer or who dig deeper is that the Agrii don’t seem to be native to Agra 10. There are signs that the city is not old enough for the culture that is claimed to have been here. The second city, Sh’Ka, even seems designed for the needs of an entirely different species.

What is Temba like?

The best way to answer that is to direct you to the Maps. If you want more details at any point, please ask below for more information.

How is exploration handled?

At times characters are specifically encouraged to explore in the course of events. When this happens we will provide information as needed and suggest routes players can take or things they might want to look into. Outside of these times players are welcome to explore by asking questions and then submitting an Adventure Request. We will work with players to set a goal, offer fresh information and revelations, and even suggest new Flora/Fauna/Hazards that may affect them. Players are welcome to even suggest some of their own ideas for those things as well. Mods are even happy to help you figure out what might motivate your character to go out in the first place.

What about these Energy Storms?

Glad you asked. These are random storms of ferocious power. Deadly to the Agrii, your character won't be harmed permanently by them but they may experience some very odd events. The Energy Storms seem to make cuts into reality when they come. Like rain, the sky goes dark beforehand giving people time to try and get into shelter. But even in your room you will be affected to some degree by the storms. Each storm has some shared characteristics, like taking out all power and communications, as well as inhibiting a character’s powers.

Another common effect is visions of things that aren’t there. These are often of loved ones and friends, and these people seem very real. Worst, these visions are prone to trying to lead people into danger. In addition the moon itself seems different at these times, a great menacing face leering down at the planet.

Other things may happen with each storm, but one thing is certain: they are a hazard of incomparable scale on Agra 10. It is very possible that until these are stopped, home is out of reach for He Rows. They are, after all, what is keeping the Agrii from going home as well.

What kind of food/life is on this planet? Is there water?

The best way to learn about food here is to check out the Flora and Fauna pages. These are by no means exhaustive, and players are welcome to offer suggestions to them at any time. Characters have, over time, come to set up a Diner in the central square of Temba to help with people eating as well, if the people managing it currently choose to at least. There is also food available on the ships in the form of protein gel dispensers.

Fresh, clean water is available on the ships, as well as throughout the city now that the water treatment plant is running. So long as power is available there is potable water available for whoever needs it.

What if I want to launch a rocket? Or fire a gun into the air? Or any other number of actions with some upward force? What happens?

All He Rows will find any powered systems or munitions fired into the sky, be they from a handheld projectile weapon (aka arrows, bullets, grenade launchers), missiles, fireworks, satellite launches, etc, will end up with the device or shrapnel/remains thereof scattered around a point in Temba particularly associated with them. This could be their residence, a building they frequently work in, or some place they have taken particular care of. The radius of the mess will be such that it becomes an annoyance to the individual who was responsible for the launch/creation of the device launched, without being a hindrence to any other He Rows. If you are proposing a launch that is large enough to be seen from multiple places in Temba or Sh'Ka, we encourage you to post about it to the OOC comm so people can react to it however they see fit. If pressed about this quirk, the Agrii will answer they have no idea what is going on and they are absolutely not responsible for this.

What's up with the replicator system?

Located in the Whale Comb Sent Hers in Temba and on both The Peanut Party and The Glitter Food is a futuristic device. Does it look a lot like a Federation Replicator? It really does, and for good reason as the original was acquired on a trip to the Federation resort planet, Risa. He Rows have Five uses of the replicator each month. These uses can be handwaved and in most cases do not require mod consultation or active tracking. There are some rules about what can and cannot be replicated, though.
1. You can replicate most items up to the size of an average microwave. If you want to make something bigger, you’ll have to replicate it in parts - and each part counts as one of your five total items for the month.

2. While food and ingredients can be replicated, viable plants/seedlings/seeds cannot. Nothing with the potential to live/germinate can be replicated.

3. No weapons can be replicated at any time. Supplies that could be used to create weapons can be replicated, though. If you are not sure what counts as a weapon, please ask below (for example, a nail bat does count as a weapon). Attempts to replicate a weapon will consume a replicator charge, result in a melted lump of something, and may even temporarily break the machine until an Engineer can perform repairs.

4. No energy crystals or their components can be replicated at any time.

5. The replication menu is limited. Things not common in the period of Star Trek: The Next Generation will not replicate without further instructions. There is a system wherein He Rows can program instructions for replication. This can be used to replicate: specialty foods, medications, drugs, tools, etc. If a character is smart enough, or can consult with another individual who knows how to program, the replicator can achieve many results.

6. Your replicator rations are shared through all replicators. You get only the five uses no matter where you use them. That said, anyone can program instructions into a replicator, so it is possible to trade or gift replicator uses. The gifter must hit the final replicate button to confirm the replication process.

7. Any replication of drugs or alcohol can only be done by He Rows who are 15+. Replication of drugs/alcohol not common in the time of Star Trek TNG (aka things that may have fallen out of favor) will require programming in.
Finally, in Fall 2024 the Agrii thanked their He Rows for repairing their ship by upgrading the replicators. Now He Rows get one additional ration each month that is used for only one purpose: bulk replication of a raw or simple material. This allows for the replication of up to fifty pounds of a singular sort of item. Anything previously banned is also banned here. Good examples of things that could be replicated are construction materials (like sandpaper, nails, bags of concrete), food stuffs (flour, specific sort of cheese, a singular spice), undyed cloth, ingots of a singular metal, etc. The item replicated must be a singular item of the same consistency, with the only exception being a paper bag or cardboard box holding the volume of the items. Please note that if you are replicating anything that would classify as a 'drug', medical or otherwise, the replication can only be done by He Rows who are 15+, and they can only get the usual breadbox sized volume when using this ration. Better to use this for components. If you have questions on what is covered, please feel free to ask.

ACTIVITY CHECK

What do I have to do?

The AC period runs from the first day through the last day of each month. Activity can be posted at any point before the cut off date on our permanent Activity Check page. We ask that AC is submitted for all characters at once in a single comment to your personal tracking thread. Please make sure your AC is posted by 11:59 PM Pacific (UTC-8) on the seventh of the month to cover the previous month. The mods will try to post a reminder on the fifth of every month so you don't forget!

AC requirements are one of the following for each character played:
- One open post with clear effort to follow up on replies.

- One open TL in an event or mingle log with clear effort to follow up on replies.

- Ten comments over no more than two threads.
New characters DO NOT have to post AC during the month they were accepted, but do have to submit a check in instead. Please see the AC page for more information.

What threads count?

All threads in the main community count toward AC. Comments for AC may still be taken from character inboxes and TDM threads, however at least four must be in the game community. Mods will also monitor to make sure all AC for a character/player does not come from the same people every month. If we have a concern, we will reach out. Please note that we do not require the thread be started during the month it is being used as AC for, but can have continued into that month. For example, if there was an event that started in January and has now gone into February, as long as sufficient replies were made by your character in February it can be used again for AC. You can even use the same thread over multiple months. We mostly care that you are being active.

What happens if I don't make it?

Failure to provide full AC in a month will result in a strike. Strikes are cleared by providing twice as much AC as normally required during the subsequent month.
- If using comments only, double AC requires no more than four threads, and ten comments must be in the game community.

- Players receive one grace month in clearing a strike if they take a hiatus or discuss an extension request with the mods through a message to the mod account [personal profile] trpmods.

- After two strikes characters will be swept from the game.

- New characters who do not check in during their first check-in month will be swept, though any new characters joining on the 25th or after will have their next calendar month counted as their first.
If there is some sort of emergency that prevents you from making AC or clearing a strike then please contact us. We will discuss options. We don’t want to punish you when life is already hard, and do our best to work with our players.

How do I hiatus?

If you will be unable to play for at least one week out of a calendar month/AC period, please visit the Hiatus page and post a hiatus for one (or more, if applicable) of your characters. A hiatus post will equal one free AC pass for the calendar month in which the most days of the hiatus fall (i.e., if you post a hiatus that spans two months, the month in which you are hiatused longer will receive the AC pass).

You may adjust the length of your hiatus if necessary by replying to your original comment. If you need to hiatus longer than one full month (4 weeks), please contact one of the mods to let us know what's up!

Since the TDM is mandatory for applications, is it canon? How does AC count there?

Whether a thread is canon or not is up to the players. In-game characters can use one thread on the TDM toward their AC each month. (This is encouraged!) The thread can be used toward AC regardless of whether the new character gets into the game or not. Additionally, in-game players can use any two TDM threads from the past three months as an AC 'Get out of Jail Free' card. What that means is that you can use it to remove an AC Strike or to prevent one if you don't have enough regular AC material. You can only use this option once every three months, and again, both TDM threads must be within three months of the current AC month.

What do I do if I need to drop?

If you need to drop one or more characters, please go to our drop page and leave a comment. Characters who drop will simply disappear from Agra 10 on the date the drop comment is posted unless otherwise specified.

Dropped characters become available for anyone to reserve/app 3 days after the drop comment is posted. Players are welcome to re-reserve/app their dropped character in the future if they wish, provided the character is available and the player meets criteria for an additional character (if applicable).

Wait...you didn't answer _______!

We didn't? Really? My bad. Only human over here. Go ahead and hit the comments and we'll let you know the answer/update the above!

Forgive me if this is a duplicate question, but I didn't see it elsewhere.

If a character's personal item on arrival is a weapon, would they be able to find ammo?

That makes perfect sense, thank you! Canonically she usually has backup rounds, but I realize that this is Hard Mode so honestly, even the holster would probably be a bonus. ;)
